Basement Renovation Entertaining Space in Madison, WI

These young and outgoing clients wanted a space for entertaining friends and coworkers in their Madison, WI home. The entertaining space was the focus of this basement renovation.

It was always the couple’s dream to have a built-in seating booth in their basement. The basement is where they did a large amount of their entertaining – watching movies, playing board games, and relaxing with good company. Overall, they wanted a more functional space, making it easier to converse with guests.

On either side of the booth seat, there are cabinets for all of the couple’s games and drink coasters. The custom cherry table finishes the space off. The table pedestal was designed to allow for easy movement into the built-in seating area without hitting feet.

We added a wet bar to the basement, complete with a bar sink and mini fridge. It’s a great space for the couple to mix drinks for company. The custom glass shelves beautifully display their collection of souvenir mugs and steins. In addition, the mirrors in the center of the bar back create a focal point.

Another space this couple used for entertaining was the kitchen. We had designed it years ago, but it was in need of a wine bar. We filled a blank wall with cherry cabinetry to match the rest of the kitchen. The wine bar is complete with glass doors and wine racks.

From the basement to the kitchen, this couple finally has all of the entertaining space they need!

Basement Laundry and Bath Makeover in Madison, WI

Our clients had a cramped and dark basement laundry and bath that needed improvement.

Their goals were to make the basement laundry room feel more spacious and comfortable for doing laundry tasks while improving the showering area and providing more bathroom storage for their lower level guest suite. Another goal was to add more overall storage to the space.

The existing walls closed the owner into a small dark hallway. We rearranged the washer and dryer and opened up the space by getting rid of walls and closet doors that separated the spaces. Now the bathroom is far more functional, with a brand new Kohler shower module and custom glass shower door as well as a convenient laundry area with great storage above. In addition, a large vanity with utility cabinet holds more cleaning supplies. It becomes very surprising that this brightened space is in the basement of the tri-level home.

The client chose warm green and brown earth tones for the room.

This gives the space a very updated yet relaxing feel which will be appealing to future home buyers. The custom glass door gives the shower a more polished look. These homeowners can now enjoy a more functional, easy to use area for years to come while providing their guests a nicer bathroom space.

Basement Remodel- 2010 Contractor of the Year Winner

2010 Contractor of the Year Winner- Basement Remodel in Madison, WI

Nov 5th. 2010 – A Better Home was awarded a win for our basement remodel in Madison, WI. Our winning category was Interior Remodel under $100,000.  The competition is run by NARI (The National Association of the Remodeling Industry).  Remodeling companies enter projects for judging in 15 categories. These categories include baths, kitchens, basements, exteriors, etc. with subcategories of different sizes and scope.  We placed 1st in our category for this basement remodel featuring the use of many salvaged architectural items.

Because there were many challenges with remodeling this basement, the end result was even more amazing. We made use of many salvaged items while finding creative ways to incorporate them. In addition, the fun, bright wall colors make the space feel less like a basement and more like a part of the home.

Most of all these homeowners now enjoy their basement remodel with added storage, a new bedroom with egress, an updated bathroom and a great family entertaining space.
